BRICS - Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa
We discussed in class briefly the designation of certain emerging economies under the
acronym BRICS.
Goldman Sachs (GS) research report
on BRICS.
The results are startling. If things go right, in less than 40 years, the BRICs economies together could be larger than the G6 in US dollar terms. By 2025 they could account for over half the size of the G6. Of the current G6, only the US and Japan may be among the six largest economies in US dollar terms in 2050.
BRICS+G is a dialogue about sustainability and growth
in six countries.
Shaping economic growth in a sustainable way is one of the biggest challenges to be faced in the 21st century. More and more countries - Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa (the BRICS) and Germany - have already elaborated national strategies for sustainable development or are about to do so in order to base economic growth on a long-term perspective, balancing the interests of economy, society and environment.
